Walkthrough to complete Explore the Ruins quest in Baldur’s Gate 3. Enter the ruins through the gate (X=282, Y=299), use lockpick with Astarion to easily open the door. As soon as you enter, disarm the trap in the center of the room, and pick up the key. Continue north until you reach a chamber.
In this large room to the north, you’ll find several skeletons and a statue of Jergal, the final scribe, which is essential for the quest.
Now, prepare for a fight. You can make it easier by looting the skeletons so they lack melee weapons if they come to life. When you’re ready, go to the north side of the room, to the left of the large statue, and activate the button that appears. This opens a hidden chamber and revives the skeletons for a brawl. Focus on them one by one and don’t hesitate to use healing potions, especially for your lower-level characters at the start of the campaign.
After defeating all the skeletons, head to the chamber you opened with the button. Interact with the large sarcophagus to chat with Withers, a non-hostile undead with philosophical thoughts. Answer his questions to complete the quest. You can also loot his sarcophagus and the heavy chest in the room for extra rewards, including an amulet that briefly revives a corpse for a chat.
Once you finish the quest, Withers will appear in your camp. He offers to revive any dead allies or even reclass your character for 100 gold, allowing you to switch to another class or reconsider your class leveling choices at each level.
